Please forgive me if I am in the incorrect forum.
I’m recently divorced; mostly amicable. Decree states I pay into joint checking account for monthly bills until we are divorced AND both have our own places. Any medical expenses incurred while married are paid for from joint account of which she has control of and has removed me from.
A medical expense of mine is incurred while we are married along with routine yearly doctor visit charges. Insurance denies to pay other expense (less than $200). Divorce becomes final. We both move to our own places. She asks how much total Dr bill is. when she realizes amount, she logs into to my health account, takes screen shot of Explanation of Benefit including charges, full description of procedure, my name, account, etc (PHI) and emails this from her work account to my work voicing her displeasure.
I have since changed my password to this account; silly me. Questions, is there any illegality in the transfer of my PHI in the clear on unsecure email? As she had my account login info but no permission to access this without my consent should I contact my Insurance carrier to report this? And lastly should this be reported to either my or her work that this information was sent in the clear without my permission?
Best and thank you for any help,
David
