Default Steps to Change Childs Name in Texas

My question involves name change laws in the State of: Texas

My son is 11 and has not seen his father since he was 1. We don't know where his father resides and he does not pay child support. We are wanting to change my sons last name to mine. My question is, once I file the petition with the County Clerks office what do I need to file the notice by publication in the newspaper for his last known city? Thanks for you help in advance.

If you're talking about substituted service on the father, in anticipation that you cannot serve him personally, you will start by attempting personal service. If that fails, you will petition the court for permission to provide substituted service and, if the court grants your request, you will provide notice consistent with the court's order.
