Felony Assault Charges from a Stabbing

My question involves criminal law for the state of: new york

so my girfriend stabbed me and we have court tomorrow and she was charged with 2nd degree assault. i refused to make an initial statement because i did not want to get her in trouble. her public defender told me that because i didnt make a statement the court has nothing to go on and cant make a case and the charges will be dropped automatically because i cant drop them myself.

is this true? what can happen to her?
