Default How Does Statutory Rape Law Work

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Minnesota

My best friend is turning 17 in 4days and she's dating a guy that just turned 20 years old. I am 17 already and I am starting to like his friend. Is there any why that they could get in trouble with the law for this?

For what? You are 17, your friend is 16 and her boyfriend is 20. How old is your potential playmate?

That depends on what they're planning to do, and whether the 17 year old has permission from her parents to date a 20 year old.

Research your own age of consent info. If you guys are willing to risk it, then you are willing to check out the consequences.

So, DO these 17 year olds have parental permission to date these 20 year olds?

It really does make a difference to what legal issues there may be.

As long as you have parental permission, you should be fine. Just know that until you are 18 (and even older if you continue to live at home) your mom can withdraw permission at any time. Her house, her rules.
