Default Debt to a Deceptive Theraputic School

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: NY/NJ...I enrolled my child in a behavior modification school ( I was at a loss for options for my then out of control teen)...admission and tuition led me to take out several loans to enroll as well as maintain tuition payments...however I was unable to maintain the tuition payments so I pulled her out of the school...fast forward a few years later, I find out the school was a scam all along and were ordered to close by the state. I however still have outstanding payments due with judgements on my credit to this date..what legal standing do I have and what are my options if any.

With these strenuous economic times anything I can do to lessen any financial obligations will be a great help to me.

1)Were the loans through the school or were they ones you secured yourself?

    2) What were the exact circumstances of the school being closed by the state?
