The worst case scenario? You don't identify your state, but in some states a juvenile offender can be remanded to custody until the age of 21 for any offense. I can't imagine that outcome actually occurring, but it's the worst outcome I can think of out of juvenile court. Of course, in a few states you could be prosecuted as an adult - but an adult would only have to face the maximum potential sentence on the charge and in most states you would probably be charged with a @90-day misdemeanor.

JMHO......first "tiem" getting caught you say! Here's hoping the judge is having a bad day and sends you away for a good while.

You really should be concerned about the crime and not just your parents because I can tell you from what I have went through cleaning up a record for a personal friend/family member, Walmart/Sams Club is one of the many stores that makes sure you get prosecuted and they do not budge until you get at least a large fine and a record. If you and your attorney (and yes you better get an attorney) walk in and you have a smug attitude, the Wal-Mart people will push for the highest fine and punishment. So have some remorse. I am not sure how the state of Mass. treats offenders, but NJ is very tough and 1st and 2nd offense require mandatory community service, and 3rd offense is mandatory 90 days jail time. All require a large fine in addition to a civil recovery which will come in the mail separately. And believe me they mean what they say, Wal-Mart will not give up so there’s no argument. Even for a $10.00 item it will ruin your record, and when you are trying to get a job it will show up. Please keep that in mind that it may seem like fun now, but later you will go through hell when you least expect it.

You should have worried about consequences before you committed a crime not after. Your more worried (based on your post) about whats going to happen to rather than remorse over wrongdoing

As you say, this is the first time you got caught, so getting off lightly will likely not create much of an impression. As a minor, your parents need to know, everything, not just this offense but that it is not the first time, because they are responsible for you and you need their help. Please tell your parents immediately. Don't think that is is ok to become deceptive like one of our other posters who admitted her criminal background yesterday, because she did not learn any lesson from the experience. Update us after you tell your parents.

During a shoplift arrest it is the norm for LP or PD to notify parents why was this not done? In Ca minors detained for shoplifting are released to parent or responsible adult they are NOT just let go with ticket!
