Default Subpoena to Appear As Witness in Traffic Court

My question involves an accident that occurred in the state of: Florida

I was involved in a 3-car accident- a girl hit me as I was stopped in traffic and pushed my car into the one in front of me. She was definitely at fault and the cop agreed, so she was issued a ticket. But now I've just received a subpoena saying I (along with the driver of the car I was pushed into) am commanded to appear in court as a witness for the state of FL vs her. I'm completely new to this legal stuff, so do I need a lawyer as a witness?

    Thanks!

Default Re: Subpoena to Appear As Witness in Traffic Court

If the case is FL vs her then don't sweat it. I've appeared as a witness under subpoena a couple of times (I'm the guy who stops and helps when I see an accident, so I sometimes get called as witness if I saw the collision itself). I never involve a lawyer.

I would notify whoever is handling your insurance claim (adjuster etc). I always meet with whoever requested the subpoena on me before the trial. Sometimes that is the plaintiff in a civil case, and sometimes it is the prosecutor (criminal/traffic charges).

Don't worry about it - a subpoena is not a tactic to get you into a courtroom for nefarious purposes.
