My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ill and IA
Hello all I am new to this site and I have a few question I would like some help with. Back on Dec 1st 2005 I was charged with 2nd degree burglary for walking into a offset garage (The light was on and the door was open and no one was home) and took a pair of subwoofers that was sitting in the middle of the floor (literally) and walked out. I spent 42 days in jail, 2 1/2 years on probation and paid $1,700 (a little more than that but rounding it out) in fines. Now I want to own a gun in Iowa for protection and just to be able to go to the shooting range with family and friends but i'm not sure if I can own a gun here. The Iowa code 724.25 Felony and antique firearm defined:
1. As used in section 724.26, the word “felony” means any offense punishable in the
jurisdiction where it occurred by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, but does not
include any offense, other than an offense involving a firearm or explosive, classified as a
misdemeanor under the laws of the state and punishable by a term of imprisonment of two
years or less.
2. As used in this chapter an “antique firearm” means any firearm (including any firearm
with a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system) manufactured
in or before 1898. An antique firearm also means a replica of a firearm so described if
the replica is not designed or redesigned for using rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed
ammunition or if the replica uses rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition which
is no longer manufactured in the United States and which is not readily available in the
ordinary channels of commercial trade.
[C79, 81, §724.25]
86 Acts, ch 1065, §1; 2010 Acts, ch 1178, §15, 19
I am not looking to buy a antique gun but you can see what i'm talking about. I was never in prison close but never there. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.
