My question involves criminal law for the state of: IL
So its been around 5 months since I was 'KIND OF' caught shoplifting. I was an employee at a store, and I acted as if I didnt not take it, gave it back to them, and then quit the next day (I dont want to bore you with the full story but that sums it up)The reason i put KIND OF caught is because they let me go after my shift was over and I left home. NO police were called. NO papers were signed, nor did I ever admit to it. They have NEVER SINCE called me and about two months after this event, I applied for a job and had to do a background check, and it thankfully came up clean.
** I KNOW WHAT I DID WAS BAD but this situation has taught me a life lesson the easy way so far**
I believe the SOL is a year in my area, and I also know that non of you are psychics but based on past cases you have read or posted on here before, after 5 months of NO CONTACT with anyone from my workplace, do you think that they are still investigating this case? Or what is the likely hood of it?
Also lets say the item was stolen on 12/12/2012, does that mean once it hits 12/12/13 they can NOT charge me at ALL?
I don't know how long the store holds footage for, but the day I was 'caught' i had about 80$ worth of sealed product, but i have stolen in the past prior to this encounter. I also did not do this in areas where cameras can easily see it and working there, these spots are pointed out
Thoughts?
I contacted a lawyer a week after this happened and he said he can not do anything for me until I get trialed, but gave me some pointers of what to do and what not to do in the event i was charged.
And pelase, I know what I did was wrong, and I also know how bad of a perosn this makes me, but trust me, it has never happen since that event NOR will it ever happen
