My question involves medical malpractice in the state of: Illinois
I have been a patient in the county health's system since 2001. In that time I have been diagnosed with about 25 conditions, and I am seen in eight different specialty clinics. The problem: Because of a third party, the doctors don't treat my conditions properly, if they treat them at all. Example 1: I have had Type II Diabetes since 2001, but the doctors have never given me any medication for the condition. I have been on diet and exercise to control this condition for 12 years despite a number of complications including Glaucoma (left eye, totally blind 2004); Retinopathy (diagnosed 2004); chronic foot problems from fungal infections (started 2004 and continue); Overactive bladder diagnosed 2010; gum disease - I have remnants of six teeth that have rotted from the inside out.
Example 2: I have Rhematoid Arthritis and I see Rheumatologists. However, they always note on my form that blood tests were negative or borderline for the condition. Yet, I came to the ER on two occasions for hand and wrist injuries I received from everyday activities. I also have most of the signs of the condition from the Arthritis Foundation, such as morning stiffness; pain in multiple joints; involvement in other bodily systems - food allergies at 40 + years of age; Uveitis (inflammation in both eyes); Dry eyes, Blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids); psoriasis, etc. I have been on methotrexate for over two years, and I refuse increases in the med because of side effects. I am not getting the proper treatment in this regard wither, plus they seem to minimize my symptoms on my progress notes. Also, I tried to get them to complete a form so I can get a reduced bus fare, but they ignored me.
Example 3: I recently stopped keeping my appointments with the Primary care physician because she doesn't to anything to help me. She constantly tries to give me high blood pressure medication that is contraindicated for my other conditions. Specially, she keeps prescribing beta blockers even though I told her I had to stop take the specific medication in the past because it made my "legs feel heavy, and I had trouble walking." Also, during last the appt with her, I asked for booster of the pneumonia vaccine. She did not order it and left the clinic before I was told that was the reason I couldn't get the shot. Plus I told her I need a rx for baby aspirin, but she didn't give me that or any medication.
This is just three examples. There have been many more over the years, including my being sent to the ER for management of high blood pressure, but when I arrived, they gave me nothing to lower it, then lied about my last blood pressure reading so they could discharge me. My question is - isn't all these "little things" over the years enough to amount to a lawsuit? There are a lot more examples, some of them are worse then these mentioned above.
