    Default Surgery Without Anesthetic

In some countries medical laws aren't as strictly enforced as they are here and I was wondering what would happen if the following scenario were to take place here in the US. A person breaks his leg and is picked up by an ambulance and left sitting in the emergency room waiting area because there are no doctors available at the moment and the EMTs and Nurses are too busy as well. 2 Hours later that person is admitted and is told by the doctors that they can not begin to operate until he (or someone else) purchases the materials for the surgery (bolts and stuff for the broken leg). After having someone purchase the materials the doctor performs the surgery successfully, but without using anesthetic.

So in this hypothetical example if this were to happen somewhere in the US, lets say Los Angeles, CA what would be the legal reprecautions for the doctor(s), the hospital, and anyone else involved who may become part of the lawsuit that is sure to ensue.

We don't do homework. We also don't do hypotheticals. There are quite enough people with real situations looking for help without addressing nonsense situations.

And even if we did, that situation simply wouldn't happen in ANY emergency room in the US.

    (It would be plainly illegal)

They would be sourcing their medical hardware at... Home Depot?

We're imagining Los Angeles after a magnitude 10 earthquake, but with the hardware store near the hospital open for business and full of surgical grade hardware?

Please do not try to apply standards of care from Mexico, to standards of care in the US. In Mexico, there would be little or no bill and doctor availability is a variable dependent on location and ability. For example, my father had his leg reset and pinned in Saltillo. As it had to be drilled at the thighs weakest point and he had money, a surgeon flew up from Mexico City and performed the operation. He waited 2 days for this, after a 45 mile ambulance transport from the a local Cruz Roja, which he was transported to in the back of a pickup truck. He was supplied all medication "up front" at the hospital, since he was a gringo. Once we arrived, we were required to obtain his meds from the pharmacia, just as any Mexican citizen would. His entire bill, for 10 days, including a 400 mile ambulance transport back to Chapala was $10k because he had a private room. Those patients in poverty ward, receiving FREE treatment, were also seen by the surgeon from Mexico City, while he was there. This was free for them also.
