Default 16 Year Old Boy Thrown Out by Mother

My question involves child abuse or neglect in the State of: Florida

My grandaughter is 18 years old, she has known this boy who is now 16 since the age of 12. She is currently in a relationship with him. He has been in trouble with the law before. His mother signed him out of school, so he does not attend. Recently about three weeks ago, he went out for 2 days, on the third day he called his mom and told her he wanted to get a change of outfit, his mom told him not to come back that he was no longer welcome. My grandaughter is currently living with me and he has occasionaly been staying with me. I have been supplying shelter, food and showers for him. I cannot throw a 16 year old out on the streets. Please tell me what can be done to solve this situtation. I do not want him to get into any trouble for he has been complying with all that I have told him, however the responsibilty is great, for looking at the whole picture. I cannot do anything if he was to become ill or any other circumstances that may arrive.

And when you called CPS about this situation, what did they say?

You can try contacting an organization like Covenant House, which helps homeless youth. Even if they're not in your part of the state, odds are they can refer you to an agency or entity that is more local.

I would call CPS first thing. Let them know what is going on. Also contact non emergency police and ask an officer to come to your house and speak with the boy. The officer can go with the boy to the mother's house. If she doesn't want him there, they may be able to convince her to let him stay with you, in which case the officer could stay with the boy while he gathers his belongings.
