Default Landlord Wants to Return Car Given as Prepaid Rent, and Terminate Tenancy

My question involves an eviction in the state of: Arkansas

When I first moved into the apartment I am in now, a friend invited me to stay here for free while he was renting to own the property from his mother-in-law and lived in the main house on the property. But a few months ago he moved out and the property was put up for sale. I was expecting to be homeless, but a new person moved in and we discussed options for my keeping a roof over my head.

I was looking to sell my car and use the money to pay for rent, but instead the new owner asked how much I wanted for the car and I said $7000 and he agreed to take the car and allow me 2 1/2 yrs to live here but had to pay utilities, so we haggled a little and told him to drop the amount of time to 2 yrs instead of 2 1/2 and include the utilities. He agreed and I signed the car over to him. There was no written contract it was just verbal.

Now today I was talking to landlord and questioned him about our original agreement cause I was confused where $480 of the $7000 was at because 2 yrs at the agreed upon $250 a month + $20 that was suppose to go towards internet only came out to $6520. Well he said we had agreed on 28 months at $250 a month and no internet being paid by him, though Im positive internet was included because when we had the service turned on he never asked me for money like he did with the neighboring apartment renter. Because as I stated to him... it was included.

Well anyway, in trying to discuss the details he flipped out on me and said he wanted to sign the car back to me and give me a 30 day notice. Now I had to sign up for some free mental health at a local office and with that the landlord had written out a hardship letter detailing that I sold him the car and in trade was giving me 2 yrs of rent with utilities included...

Is that hardship letter in any way a legally binding contract to stop him from evicting me?

It would not be a contract, however it would be very strong evidence of the verbal contract you have with him.

You've lived there for how long now?
