Default My Ex-Girlfriend May Be Pregnant, and May Move Overseas

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Oregon

I am a very responsible, compassionate, and mature man who needs help potentially saving a child. I was in a relationship with a woman who was on birth control and she believes she is pregnant. She informed me that she has missed her last two periods. She is a kind woman, but has substance abuse issues (this lead to our separation as I've never had that type of problem and didn't know she did). She is considering going to Europe to live with family who moved overseas. We both still get along well and are friends. We both feel the child is mine. As I said, I'm a responsible adult. I have a good job with good pay and excellent benefits. I can care for the child and love it. I fear that either her substance abuse problems or her serious psychological diagnosis could eventually cause the child harm(she unintentionally hurts people she cares about due to the mental illness. I don't want to add too many details because the illness isn't common and could potentially identify her).

My question is this; what can I do for this child? How do I stop her from leaving the country? How do I verify the child is mine? I would be heart-broken knowing my child was growing up somewhere in the world without me.

Oh, also, I have a smartphone and have about 1000 texts in my phone that we have exchanged. Some of them saying she believes I am the father. Others talking about the substance abuse. Others talking about the mental illness and hurting people. I don't wish her any discomfort. I only worry about the child and want it to live with me and know its father.

    Please help,
    The Chess Master

When the child is born, seek paternity. You cannot prevent her leaving the country if she is legally allowed to do so.

Until the child is born and paternity has been established, you have no rights or say at all.

Well, I had hoped that wouldn't be the answer, but I feared it would be. I guess my next step is patience. Thank you for the reply.

If in fact mom is pregnant, you can file a paternity petition during the pregnancy. Whether it would do you any good to have a Michigan finding of paternity if mom leaves the country before the child is born, though, is questionable. It depends in part upon where mom goes.
