Default Re: Sold a Stolen Item to a Pawn Shop

You really need an attorney. Look at your first post for this thread and ask yourself, "does this explanation soud reasonable?"

    1.
I was with my boyfriend and he had some rings he wanted to sell to a pawn shop. So we went to a pawn shop and found out he forgot his license. So I told him we could use mine to sell the rings.
Is it reasonable for you to believe that your (I am assuming young) boyfriend would have access to multiple rings that do not appear to belong to him? Is it reasonable to believe that it would be prudent to sell these high value articles for 20% of their value at a pawn shop?

    2.
So we went to a pawn shop and found out he forgot his license. So I told him we could use mine to sell the rings.
Why would you volunteer your information to sell something that is not yours, rather than go back and get the,(and I use this loosely,) "rightful owners" identification. Think about it. His mom said they were her rings. Are you saying that you honestly thought that your boyfrined owned several ladies' rings? Does that sound logical? So, again why would you put your identification up to sell ladies' items to a pawn shop. Wait...it looks better for a woman to sell items that looks as if they belong to a woman doesn't it?

    3.
After selling the rings I found out from his mother that he had stolen them from her.
Wow. At no point prior to this, did you think that a man with several ladies' rings looks a lil suspect? Unless, you figured that they were stolen, but not from his mom.

    4.
I had no idea! Now im worried I could get in trouble.
I'm betting that will look highly unlikely when they start thinking about this whole thing. Oh, and you have good reason to be worried.

    5.
The pawn shop said they lost the rings and we can't get them back.
Doubt it. Somebody got 'em. But regardless, they have YOUR information attached to a claim ticket showing you as the last person in possession of stolen articles.

    6.
So the mother is filling a police report but doesnt want anyone to go to jail
That's kind of like saying " I'm going to a brothel, but I don't want sex." Why else do you file a report. The whole point his to get assistance from the police when you were wronged.

    7.
    What should I do?
    *Ahem* seek an attorney.

    8.
    Im only 19
And that makes you an adult. One that looks a lil sketchy at this point.

To be honest I don't believe your story at all. I believe you stole the rings and pawned them.

Now what I, some random pseudonymous internet poster thinks does not mean anything to you, the important thing is that the jurors will probably think the same thing, especially when your boyfriend denies any knowledge in order to avoid jail time and looking like a thief to his mother.

Any guy scuzzy enough to steal from his own mother and deflect suspicion in the way described in your post is definitely scuzzy enough to let his girlfriend do the time for his crimes.
