My question involves a marriage in the state of: Georgia
My husband physically abused my daughter and I left him to protect my children 1 1/2 years ago. When I left the sheriff assisted me with a 10 minute stand by just to get clothing. When I left he took all of my personal property and martal, property and hid them in a storage unit. Now that I am ready to file for divorce he says that he sold and lost everything for non payment of storage payments. In the storage unit were items that belonged to our children, heirlooms that were given to me when my grandmother and step father died, as well as items that I had before marriage. He also told me that he sold my personal jewelry-along with my wedding rings (these pieces were all personal gifts). I know that marital property can be disposed of because the divorce was not filed for when he got rid of them. My question pertains to my childrens personal belongings, my personal belongings, and my jewelry. Can I legally do anything about the circumstance?
