Default My Father Might Steal My Car

My question involves my car located in: Florida

My father, his wife and kids plan to move to new york in a few days and I am under the impression they will do so with my car which is registered under my name. We are not in good standings and we agreed to part ways by the end of the week. They agreed to rent a car in a few days as they plan to drive there.

My father is stated as a driver on the insurance but I will remove him tomorrow as he claims he will no longer drive it. However, they have a long history of lies and deceits and I do not trust them at all but I also do not want to have a fight with them as I am tired of them and their constant lies.

I might be just being paranoid due to my distrust of them but just in case, if they plan to steal my car and do steal it, can I call the police? The car still has a loan under my name and is registered under my name and the license plate is mine and registered on to the car.

I will of course do my best to avoid it but I am in a very strange situation as they are very manipulative and I do not wish to depart in a bad way. Sitting down with them and talking to them will not help me unfortunately.

    Thanks in advance

Don't allow them access to the keys, and if possible move the car so they cannot find it. You could also buy a "club" (locks the steering wheel).

I agree. That is the best way to solve the problem.

How old are you and where are you living right now?

Again, make sure your father has no access to the keys and/or move the car where he cannot find it or put a locking mechanism on the steering wheel.

Got an airport nearby, or some other place with long-term or short-term parking? I'd put the car there for a night or two, or even a cheap motel until their supposed departure.

Is Dad on the title? That could be an issue if he is. If not...I would just remove him from the insurance tomorrow as planned.

Open the hood. Remove the ignition relay. (see owners manual)
