My question relates to legal practice in the state of: WA
So I had a lawyer working on a case charging me up the wazoo for his representation. Then all of a sudden we got an email from him saying that he no longer wanted to represent us. Great, but after spending "hours" of review and racking up almost $15k is charges all of a sudden he quits leaving us with a huge legal bill. Of course our new lawyer wants to charge us so he can do his own review.
My question is, can the previous attorney do that? Just quit leaving us with his bill? It seems unethical for an attorney to do so. I mean if I had a car problem and I took it into the shop, I wouldn't want to be charged $xxx.xx for the person to "check out" my car and then say he didn't want to fix it.
What rights do I have?
thanks
And yes, he quit....without any reason (or shall I say valid one)
