My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Texas
My boyfriend and I moved into a new place in Houston in August. The management company told us that there was no fee for moving out early and we could leave at any time. Our lease was a standard TAA lease. A few months later, the property was sold to a new owner and now we have a new management company. We want to move out because we have found a better place to live, and the new property manager says we can, but they would have to find and screen new tenants and we would have to forfeit our security deposit (an entire month's rent). We would be responsible for paying the rent in the meantime.
Our lease says there is no fee for moving out early, but it also says across the top "This Lease Contract is only valid if filled out before January 1, 2008." What can we do?
