My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: CA

I have lived in the same building for 2 years. I now live in a studio that is too small and I moved in it because I needed something fast. I have decided to move out 2 months early, as I was approved for my dream apartment in my dream location just minutes from my best childhood friend.

I had asked my landlord over the phone if I would still lose my entire deposit if I moved out 2 months early and helped find a new tenant (my lease says they can take it all). She said yes. This was when I was still considering applying for the other dream apartment... Later that day I texted her asking "If I do decide to move out early, would my entire deposit include the cleaning after I leave? Or would I have to pay more? There is no damage to the apartment" and she responded "Probably just cleaning. You should get it back." I asked "Get what back? My deposit?" and she said "Yes"

At this point I applied for my dream apartment and was approved today. I gave notice that I was moving and she told me she would be keeping my entire deposit, claiming she didn't know I was the one she was texting. The reason I applied for the other apartment was because I thought they were working with me!

I'm not sure if anything can be done but I would like to know if I have any ground to stand on here. I have the texts on my phone from her number, screen shots, and witnesses.

Please help. Thanks in advance.
