My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Tennessee
I just moved into an apartment complex in August. This is the first time that I have lived in an apartment because I have always owned a home. I had to move here due to the fact that I could no longer afford my home since my partner lost his job. We moved in, enjoy our new home --- and out of the blue, we received a notice from our landlord that they are terminating our lease. The letter that we received says that per our lease agreement, they have the right to end our lease agreement as long as they give us a 60-day notice. I went to the leasing office and asked why they were doing this since, to my knowledge, we have not received an complaints, violations, etc... while living here --- I just wanted to know if it was something that we had done so we could correct the issue. I was told that it was none of my business why they were doing this, that the only thing we needed to know is that per our lease agreement they could exercise this option...and that is what they were doing.
I didn't know if I had any leg to stand on since this was in our lease agreement. Do I just have to suck it up and drive on --- or is there something that I can do about this? It costs so much money to move/find a new place to live with application fees, admin fees, pet fees, etc...I just don't have this expendable income to look for another place to live right now. Any help would be great! Thanks for your time in reading...
