My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Maryland
My ex wife has kkept me from seeing my daughter for over 8 years. For various reasons, I chose not to rock the boat with litigation, but rather work things out with the mother. This didnt work as she continued to deny me visitation. Anyways, the mother was recently the driver in an accident that killed her mother, her son, a close family friend and injured 6 others. She was under the influence and has charges pending. My daughters next of kin are myself and my parents, however, Im CERTAIN her mother will try to recommend someone of her choosing to take custody if she gets jail time. My questions are: How do I make sure that I am considered as an option with the courts in the event she tries to recommend someone else? Will the courts automatically try to seek out the father in this situation? My daughter is 13 and I live 3 hours away in Virginia. Thank you.
