I strongly believe that I have been discriminated against at my previous job. I used to work with adults who have mental disabilities. I got suspended by the director because I let a consumer who I take care of go into the pantry closet and get a snack. I was told because I was not in the closet with her that I cannot work the overnight shift anymore. However; almost all off the consumers go into the pantry closets on their own. There is no rule or policy that states that consumers cannot get their own snack. The supervisor also told the director that the consumer was on a chair, yet when I went into the pantry closet no chair was present. This supervisor also has scream at me, and gave me dirty looks every time I am at work. Four days later, I was told I cannot work the overnight shift anymore. However, they continue to let me work my over night shift that weekend after the supposed incident with the pantry closet. I told them I cannot work the day shift, and my supervisor replied back and told me to quit. I said I don’t want to quit and that I was being treated unfair. My supervisor said “since you feel like you are being treated unfair come in for a meeting.” So I did. Once I got to the meeting I was told I was terminated, because I "refused" the day shift. Even though I told her to give me a couple of weeks to find child care. So I got terminated because I didn’t have child care for the day shift, but I didn’t get terminated for letting the consumer in the pantry closet, this makes no sense to me. I was told I violated company policy because I did not accept the day shift due to lack of child care, however so many other employees always change shifts and declined shift they cannot work. I was told in the interview that they are flexible with shifts. I feel like I was not treated fair because everyone else lets their consumers go into the pantry by themselves and the consumers even make lunch for themselves, yet I got suspended and eventually terminated because a consumer got her own snack. Also I have been kept out of training programs and companies’ events and bonuses. My co- workers always ask me why I wasn't at a training program or am I participating in an event. And my response is the supervisor never told me about it. I also was put into an apartment I don’t work in all of a sudden, which the apartment had bed bugs and other critters which now I have in my home. A co-worker that works in the apartment and knows the consumers more than I do complained to the supervisor that she didn’t want to work in their because of the bugs and to put me in there. So they put me in the infested apartment, the co- worker is very close to the supervisors. I continued to work in the infested apartment until I got terminated. I also found out that a man is being accused by a consumer for abuse, and all the supervisor did was move him to a different location. He did not get suspended, terminated or removed from his usual shift. Another male staff got accused of abuse and he is still working there also, however a supervisor got fired for his action, and she’s a Hispanic female just like I am. Another example is another male got caught outside the apartment because he went to smoke a cigarette which is grounds for immediate termination and he is still working there. Yet I got terminated because I let a consumer go into her own pantry closet and get a snack, and didn’t have child care for a day time shift. I was torn apart and I feel so violated because of the way I was treated at this company. I never was late, only called at once since I worked there, and I am a great employee. I don’t see why I was treated this way. I want justice. I lost a job which I loved and now I feel emotionally distraught. I feel like I am being discriminated because I am a Hispanic female. Is there any hope for me?
