My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Kansas. I finished school over a year ago in a barber college here in Kansas City. I had to apply for fafsa in order to help pay off tuition costs. I was told i would be borrowing around $7,800 and would be eligible for an $8,500 grant by the school financial aid counselor. The total cost for the course was $15,000, however when i graduated in march i received a letter from direct loans telling me that i had borrowed a total of $11,400 which needed to be payed back starting that june. I hadn't received any previous mail due to an issue with the post office, so when i finally got my online login information figured out, i was able to access a summary of my balance. I saw that the school had received $9,150 in grants and another $11,412 in direct loans for my course. I was wondering is there anyway i can dispute the excess that was received since the total cost of the tuition was supposed to be $15,000 and they received over $20,000? The school closed a few months after my graduation due to financial fraud, so i can't get in contact with anyone from the school. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, since i am looking to get a bachelors from a real college and am probably going to need financial aid once more in the near future. Thanks.
