    Default Salaried Employees and Tips

My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: Missouri

I currently work as a bartender and was promoted to Assistant Manager in a restaurant. I was informed that I would make a base pay (salary) plus take tips on the shifts I bartend. I don't feel that my salary is sufficient enough as it is and I'm wondering how the tips I claim will affect my paycheck. Is there a way I can keep my tips from eating away at my salary? The GM told me that it was my responsibility to research and find out the information for myself. I want to make sure I don't get the short end of the stick.

why would you research labor law for your boss and why would they accept your claims?

Are you still bartending or only an AM?

the reason I asked is management is not entitled to tips but obviously a bartender is.

as to how the tips affect your pay is up to your boss. As long as you are paid at least minimum wage, they do not have to pay you anything more than that. Due to that, they can simply let you have your tips without it affecting your pay or they could apply your tips against your wages so that the two combined equal what they want your pay to be or anything in between.
