My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Illinois

I live and work in the state of Illinois. My employer is changing health care providers for the company's employee-pay health insurance plan. They are going with a form of Blue Cross/Blue Shield through the Central States Joint Board Health and Welfare Trust Fund. The employees, who are not represented by any form of union, are being told that they must enroll in and pay dues to the Central State Joint Board Union in order to be eligible for the new health insurance. Upon doing research on this particular union, I discovered that they represent employees and trades that are in no way even related to our business. Outside of the insurance coverage, (again which the employees pay for) will receive no other benefits or representation from the union. Can I be forced to join the union just to qualify for health coverage for myself and family.

Thank you,
JEA
