Default 16 Year Old Doesn't Want to See Her Dad or Give Him Her Phone

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: California and Colorado

I have a 16 year old who doesn't want to travel to California to see dad (we live in colorado). My child also doesn't want him to have their phone number and I don't want him to have mine. He constantly says horrible things about me to our child, has said terrible things about the child to me and the child as well. He has been verbally abusive to me. He makes little if any effort to see his child. And the child hates it when they have to visit him. He is verbally abusive when they are there, the last visitation our child came home early because they couldn't take it. I have never blocked him from seeing his child, not have i said bad things about him. I have tried my best to encourage them to try and have some sort of relationship, but I have not forced the issue because of the verbal abuse. Now our kid is old enough to make decisions and their decision is to cut off all contact. As far as ability to communicate with me, he has my email address and can contact me in that manner.

legally, do i have to make my child travel to see him and do we have to give him our phone #s??

    Thanks!

Your child will be "old enough to make decisions and... to cut off all contact" when your child reaches the age of 18. Until then you're the parent, and you and your child are expected to comply with the court's custody order. If you have cause to modify the order based upon changes in circumstances since the court last addressed custody, bring a motion.

They have have a charge for parents who allow their children to make these decisions. They call the charge contempt of court.
