Default Abuse and Neglect Dispositional Hearing

My question involves child abuse or neglect in the State of: VA

My husband and I have court ordered, full legal and physical custody of my 6 month old cousin. We have a dispositional hearing soon regarding the charges against his mother for abuse/neglect.

My research has shown that custody of the child is normally decided during this hearing. Since we already have permanent custody of him, what else could be addressed?

The courts also appointed us an attorney which is very unexpected since we are not charged with a crime.

I have all intentions of calling the social services caseworker on Monday for her input.

    Thanks in advance

Taking custody from you and returning it to her, for example.

My thoughts are that they appointed you an attorney BECAUSE you have custody of the child and that makes you a party to the case. Not as having done anything wrong, but as someone who has rights that must be addressed/protected.
