14 Year Old Daughter Got Caught Shoplifting 4$ Eyeliner from Walmart. Fines

My 14 year old daughter got caught shoplifting a 5$ eyeliner. She got caught as she was walking out and tshe got asked to step into the office where they took general info, she didn't know her SS so they didn't demand it, the cops weren't called but she did have to have me come pick her up as she was a minor and she couldn't be released they said the fines could be 50$ to 1000$ but there might mot be any because it was a little item. They didn't say she was banned or anything.
Will there be any fines?

Most stores will have their "lawyers" send a demand for civil restitution both against your daughter and you as the parents. This is most likely what they were referring to. It's not a "fine." It's damages for the costs incurred by having to deal with criminal thieves like your daughter. While it is possible that they may make a complaint to the state and incur criminal charges, if they didn't involve the police at the time, that is less likely.

If the police or DA do come inquiring, do not speak to them and get an attorney.
