My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Pennsylvania
We have been leasiing the same house since 1996. Recently our landlords asked us to find a new place to live as their granddaughter wanted the house for her family. They gave us until next May to find a place. We got a place right away and are moving December 1. They just sent us a letter and want us to pay two additional months as that is when the lease ends. During our lease term we had the rent raised twice without an amendment or new lease drawn up. Also we were asked by our landlord to pay them for oil in the tanks when we moved in which we did but that was only supposed to occur upon termination of a lease. One lawyer told us that these items invalidated the original lease and that we became month to month tenants as a result and would not owe for any months in which we did not physically occupy the house. Our landlord disagrees and could threaten legal action. We need advice. Our original lease provided for 1 year automatic renewal terms.
