Thumbs up Can You Serve Process Through Facebook

My question involves court procedures for the state of: Michigan

Does anyone know of a case of alternate or substitutive process serving through Facebook or another social network? For example – if you know they’ve moved with no forwarding address, posting on their timeline and taking a screenshot that they were notified / served? (hey that would be a good facebok ap – call it Social Process Service , set up iphone and android aps that link to their profile page to say “you’ve been served” . Just brainstorming because of limited repose to my question about service in my previous post)

Social media and the internet are not indicated anywhere. Sorry.

    Ummm...yeah.

Try proving the identity of the author of the social networking page.

    (For one thing...)

I'll give you an example. What's stopping me from making a FB in your name?

Wishful thinking Although the network "requires" that the account be of the real person (used loosly) since a photo ID confirmation is not requested from them unless the profile account is suspect - they do require it in certain circumstances to make sure it's not used for spam - or identity theft if you make an account in anothers name. But makes me wonder what documetation would be necessary to compell FB to provide copy of ID used to confirm their identity - an immpossibility for now, as FB needs to protect their users, and for consumers rights of privacy - but look forward to a precedent setting attempt in the future when those dodging can be served online.

There are other ways of service. You can run the info in a newspaper for three weeks, for instance. There's no need to reinvent the wheel.

I recall reading about some experiments in attempting to serve hard-to-find individuals through social networks, but it's way too early to say that is (or will ever be) the norm. It's difficult to imagine any court allowing that as a method of initial service, as opposed to something to add on to an order for substituted service in the event that the person cannot be located by a process server.
