My question involves vehicle maintenance laws for the State of: North Carolina
Airbag maintenance light came on in my 2008 Toyota. Evidently something is wrong in the system and with the light on it tells me the airbags are disabled. I have read that insurance companies can deny medical costs if I do not get the problem corrected within a "reasonable" amount of time in the event I am in an accident and they can prove the airbag may have saved me from injury. I did some research an evidently Toyota has had numerous failures with an airbag spiral cable in my year vehicle. No recall yet. Costs to replace this item not under warranty start at around $500.00. I agree that the airbag provides me with added safety but the price tag to maintain this system is mighty steep. So if the unthinkable happens before I can get this problem fixed or if I just decide to ignore it am really at risk of the insurance company denying coverage? Is it something that is being actively pursued often by insurance companies? I know this will be a difficult one but what is considered "reasonable" time? Thanks.
