If you enrolled in school without qualifying for a retraining program, then you are... in school but not in a retraining program.

If you are in school and actively looking for work, fully prepared to drop out if you find a job and cannot stay enrolled, you can keep claiming UI. If you are not prepared to drop out, and have thus removed yourself from the job market via a program of study that does not qualify for California Training Benefits, you don't get UI.

I've heard of people going through this. The problem is, you never got approval for going to school from the start. You have to go to an approved EDD training. Did you go to the EDD and see the list of approved schools and training sites? If not, they can deny you benefits. There is a way around this. If you're taking night or weekend classes, EDD won't care. They don't want you taking any classes, not approved by them, during the day or afternoon, when you could be looking for work.
