My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California
I'm currently receiving unemployment benefits. I would like to start selling crafts during the holiday season to potentially build a business. In order to do so I need to apply for a business license and seller's permit.
I understand I will need to claim any income, and that my benefits would be reduced based on whatever income I made.
What I need to know is am I likely to lose benefits by simply starting a business, getting the license and a Seller's permit.
I contacted EDD for answers and received the following reply:
"You will need to report on your claim forms wages , but also report on the forms once you start doing self employed business, so the department can determine if you still qualify for benefits. It could affect your ability to collect benefits but it depends on many factors that need to be determine by a specialist from EDD. Thank you for contacting EDD."
Clearly not much help. I've tried calling, but the lines are so busy I don't even get in the queue.
Thanks for any help.
