Default Should I Take My Daughter to Visit My Wife in Prison

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois

she is going to prison for a year for forgery charges. I wonder once she goes if I should take my 13 year old daughter to visit her, but I am not sure I want my daughter to be inside a prison environment

it has nothing to do with her mother, she made some stupid mistakes but she is not a bad, irredeemable person in my opinion nor was she a bad parent to my child other than this, but it is the environment I wonder about. Also, seeing her mother as a prisoner might be another bad image.

Also, some might feel that since she participated in an illegal activity she should not receive visitors and it would be bad for us to go.

Maybe not visiting for a year is probably better than going through that hassle. (since I hear it is one to get to visit anyone anyway). I don't even know if I should go myself

You need to do some research on the prison itself. At 13, your daughter is old enough to understand, and to handle a decent prison environment in order to help her mother.

On the other hand, if they do pat downs of all visitors (including pubescent girls), and if the environment there is bad, it would be best to just let mom put in her time.

Don't worry about what others feel about what mom did. She is doing her time, and making mistakes does not (necessarily) make you a bad person. If it's a fairly decent place, let your daughter visit. It will be good for all of you.

This is not a legal question. It is entirely your decision. If you want to visit your wife, visit her. If you want your daughter to visit her, take her along. If you don't want your daughter in a prison environment, don't take her.

So no one in a jail or prison should receive visitors because they participated in an illegal activity? That'll make it much easier on the prison staff.
