My question involves criminal law for the state of: Minnesota
I have a feeling that my question may be slightly ridiculous and that I am being foolish for worrying about it. However, I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with an answer.
While having a cigarette in a parking lot near my residence, I was approached by a young man, on his way to his own car, who asked if he could bum one. He appeared to me to be of college age (over 18), so I gave him one. However, it was at night with poor lighting, so now I am not positive and I neglected to ask how old he was at the time. So now I am concerned about the possibility that he may have been a minor. I am not sure if there was anyone or anything (I.e. camera) present that could have identified me. I know Minnesota has some rather stringent tobacco laws, so my question is this: Assuming a worst case scenario and that a) the young man was indeed a minor, b) his receiving a single cigarette from a stranger was reported, and c) that I could be identified, does anyone think that I have cause to be concerned about a misdemeanor charge being filed?
Again, sorry if this seems foolish. I just don't know how seriously a mistake like this would be taken, assuming it's an issue at all. Thank you for your help!
