Emancipation for a Minor

Hi, I'm currently 16 years old and living in the state of Indiana. However, I recently moved here from Oklahoma. I'd like to be emancipated, but I'd like to know a little more of how it works. Here is my situation: My parent has had a past in messing things up and he's continued doing it again. I'd like to get away from that and my other parent has multiplerschlerosis and is back in Oklahoma. I'd like to be emancipated to someone back in Oklahoma City whenever I go and take a visit come around December. Is it even possible to be emancipated from a different state like that? Please help me out with my situation, I'd appreciate it!

Emancipation does not mean that you are put into the custody and control of someone else. If you are unable to pay 100% of your own support, including market rate for rent, food, clothing, utilities, transportation, insurance, medical care, staples, school fees and supplies, and all the other incidentals of life, alone and unassisted, you do not qualify to be emancipated.

You do not get emancipated "to someone else". Either you're capable of self-support or you're not.

You have no job, no money and you are not smart enough to know the difference between custody and emancipation. Even if you had a really good job and lots of money, you would not have a decent chance.

I have the money, above 3.0 average grades, realize what it is like to be on my own and more.
From what I was told, being emancipated could mean living with someone else, or living alone. Which is what I meant by to someone else. I didn't word it in the correct way, I apologize. I've read the stickied threads also, I just don't fully understand the concept of emancipation. Yet, I need to get out of here and most definitely don't feel comfortable here.

Nope to get emancipated, you must be able to support yourself living alone. No sponging or apartment sharing allowed. You have $30,000 laying around, to rent an apartment, buy furniture, buy transportation, buy food, buy clothes, buy health insurance and buy car insurance? That would likely get you through the first 6 months. Then you would need a regular job capable of providing an income high enough to pay about $2000 a month in bills.

Even if you are living alone, you have to be able to show that you would be able to pay all your own support if the person you were living with kicked you out, or got hit by a bus, or got transferred to New Zealand and couldn't or wouldn't take you along. Emancipation absolutely does not mean that you are taken from your parents' custody and put into the custody of someone else; it means that you are declared a legal adult who is no longer in need of anyone else to pay all his or her own bills and manage all of his or her own affairs. When you say you "have the money", what do you mean by that? Do you have an income that will allow you to pay all of your own expenses on an on-going basis? Will your 3.0 average (which is not as high as a judge would want to see before emancipating a minor) drop when you have to pay 100% of your own bills? By any chance is this "someone in Oklahoma" a romantic interest? (If so, stop right there because no judge will even consider emancipating a minor on that basis).

Emancipation is not and never was intended to be a means for a minor to move out. It was and is intended to be a means to provide legal protections to those minors who, for reasons outside their own control, found themselves living alone.

I didn't say 3.0, I said above a 3.0 average. I have an income, yet it probably wouldn't be able to provide 100%. No it's not a romantic interest. It's the rest of my family, I spent more than half my life there. I left all my highschool friends, and my mother that doesn't have long to live. I have people I could fall down on, even if I couldn't provide 100% but with the judge knowing that you are most likely correct, they wouldn't emancipate me with knowing that I wouldn't be able to provide for myself fully. Yet, I would be able to pay for my own place to live and be able to get by with going to school and everything else that happens to be needed. I don't live alone currently, I just know of the risks and responsibilities of being a legal adult.

Then the route to go is not emancipation, but a change in physical custody or guardianship.

BTW, SSI or survivor SSDI is not your income and does not count as such.
