    Default Misdeamanor Charge for Stealing from a Store

    My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois
    Is it possible to get misdeamanor if you got caught shoplifitng but no police were involved and they just told me ill get a civil demand letter which i got today..?

    Is it possible? Yes.

    Is it guaranteed? Can't say on the basis of what info we have.

    I've answered this a zillion times now for you.

    The store has 1-2 years (it varies by state) to file criminal charges.

    Pay the Civil Demand. Stay out of the store and it's other locations.

    At this point...if after answering questions on the forum and through PM is not enough....then I would suggest a consultation with a Criminal Defense lawyer near where you shoplifted from.
