My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: Wyoming

I have gone to school for management so I am pretty familiar with the laws as far as what I can and don't have to be legally paid. In my current employment I am being payed $6.50/hour. As to my knowledge, the Wyoming's minimum wage is still $5.75. Your place of employment is okay to pay you such so long as you have a wait staff job, going to school or under 20. I do not go into any of these. So if you are exempt from this pay doesn't that mean they must pay you federal minimum wage? This is my understanding of the situation. I brought it up to my boss and she stated they don't have to because they are a family owned business, with suspicion I contacted the labor board. The man had laughed and said if they take credit card as a form of payment that does not matter. So before I bring up to them that they are indeed wrong I wanted to make sure my facts are correct. Thank you.
