My question involves a traffic accident in the State of Florida:
My mother-in-law lives in Florida. Doral County police sent her a letter to present herself to the police dept. She visited the police dept today. Once there she was interrogated by a couple of male officers and later on a female officer. They told her that she hit a car in a parking lot of a hospital in Doral County and she left the scene. They told her that there was a witness and they had video of the incident. She claims on a stock of bibles that she never hit anybody while there picking up her mother.
Detectives harrased her to the point that they told her that she was going to be booked and she would have to get an attorney unless she confess to the incident. They brought her to the point of tears and she under duress signed a statement saying that she did it.
My question is, Can the Doral County Detectives act in this way?
Can they arrest someone based on an alleged Witness and an a supposed video? Specially if there was only alleged property damage, no personal injury.
Which they never showed her, as they explained that it would be shown to her after she was booked.
Would like to help on this issues, as I suppose that her insurance will not pay anything and all of it is comming out of pocket.
Thank you,
Ismael
