Default Refused Entry for Bringing a Desktop Computer on a Recreational Vacation

About 7 years ago I was refused entry into the U.S. I was crossing from Windsor to Detroit on a planned 1 month vacation. As a computer nerd I , without thinking took my computer with me....cpu, monitor, keyboard ...The works. The gaurd told me I could not prove I was not going to work and could not verify I would leave the country. I understood his concern and was no issue to the officer. I was photographed and my thumb print was taken. I did not complain or persue the issue as I have not had need to travel. We want to go to Hawaii. My concern is that refusal and how it could affect our trip. Please help.

    Thanking you in advance

Do you qualify for entry without a visa, or are you seeking a tourist visa?

When you do cross, be prepared to document your ties to Canada (lease / home ownership, bills, job, financial accounts, family, etc.) just in case. You would not volunteer any such information, but could benefit from having it it available to support your answers questions or to address the immigration officer's concerns.

Canada is not part of the Visa Waiver Program.

No visa...just Honolulu for a week. I also enjoy travelling the U.S, as a racing fan (IndyCar and Nascar) . My wife and I are retiring and we hope to make many trips south.
