Default How Can You Get Emancipated if You Can't Support Yourself

What if you want/need to get emancipated but you have somewhere to stay (ex; family members house, roomating, etc). Would you still need to show proof you can support yourself fully and on your own? Or would you just need to show proof you can help the family member out that you are staying with? I turn 17 in December. My parents are divorced and I do not associate with him and my mom constantly yells. She verbally abuses my sisters and I. I cannot wait till I'm 18, I need to get out now. It is not a healthy environment to be living in. Please give me advice on how to get emancipated and what is all needed to get emancipated.

Emancipation is about need, not want. It is not for teens who are upset with their parents.

In the state of Colorado, there are no statutory provisions for the emancipation of minors. Emancipation is not available to you.

Even if it were, you would not be a candidate, as you must be supporting yourself 100%, without assistance, at the time of your petition.

Or would you just need to show proof you can help the family member out that you are staying with
? That would not be enough for emancipation in any state. Particularly not in Colorado, where there is no statute for the emancipation of a minor and ONLY if the minor can show a history of complete and total self-support will the state even consider the possibility of looking at whether you might be considered a candiate for emancipation.

You don't really understand fully what emancipation means, do you? It means considerably more than just being able to move out. As a matter of fact, emancipation is not and never was intended to be a means for a minor to move out - it was and is intended to be a means to provide legal protections to those minors who, for reasons outside their own control, found themselves living alone.

And if you'd read any of the hundreds of threads on emancipation elsewhere on this site, you'd know that.
