    Default Traveling on probation

I will begin a 5 yr probation sentence Thursday sept 28th for a charge of burglary in New York State. I am currently 19 years old. I am currently planning on going away to school the start of the 07-08 school year. I am staying in state but not sure as to what college i want to go to. My question is would i be able to go visit colleges for a day with out getting a permit. If i need a permit to visit colleges upstate how much in advance do i need to do this. Also the car i drive has tinted windows blue lights, VERY ILLEGAL if i get pulled over for this could that ever affect my probationthey are non moving violations. Finally my last question is there is a chance that i might dorm with a person who is also on probation and charged with the same crime will they say something about this? Thank you for your help.

Don't violate your probation. Ask for permission to the colleges you want to visit. Don't break laws while on probation. Remove the illegal tint from your car windows. You don't know what college you will stay in but you know who your roommate is? If your probation restricts you from having that person as a roommate, don't violate your probation by ignoring that restriction.

so i had my first meeting today with the Po. I asked questions and got answers. Basically i was told i can travel within the state aslong as im not sleeping out. But what i dont get is i asked permission to go to a concert the 21st of oct. in upstate NY more than 4 hours from my house. They said thats fine but what am i supposed to do go to the concert get out at midnight drive back and be home at 4 am. It doesnt make sense. Why not sleep till the morning and drive back early like 9am wouldn't that be alot safer than driving after a tiring concert. Also i was told i must go to a Drug and alcohol evaluation which only take an hour. My offense has nothing to do with alcohol and i have never used drugs in my life im a bit concerned as to why they want me to do this> Do they think im a drug addict or is this a process everyone goes through. Whoever can help answer my questions further I thank you for you help.

Probation is a very restrictive process. It's meant to provide you with structure to help you avoid becoming a repeat offender.

How doesn't it? You're on probation because you committed a crime. Probation is restrictive - it's not supposed to be fun and easy. What's left to explain?

It's not at all unusual for defendants to undergo screenings for drug and alcohol problems. You may have no problem whatsoever; but they can't take your word for it, as most people who do have problems are unwilling or unable to admit it. Many people who commit acts of burglary do so to support a drug habit.

There is a saying. "Don't buck the system." You may not consider yourself as a criminal, but unfortunately for you, your state does. [I]Generally[I], you are not to associate at all with another person who is on parole or probation. #2 Consider yourself lucky they let you travel at all. Again I say "DON'T BUCK THE SYSTEM!"

Heyy well its been a month into probation and well its not that bad so far. Probation are nice people. I went for the drug and alcohol evaluation. I voluntarily signed up to take group classes to show probation that im not trouble nor do i have a problem which was said by the evaluation counselor. My only question is lets say im out at school or just out within legal range but still an hour or two away and they show up at my house what do i do?
