Default Denied Unemployment After Losing Job Due to Medical Issues

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: GEORGIA / FLORIDA

I was employed in Georgia, lived out of a hotel for 6 months. Due to a medical condition my CDL Medical card was revoked, I lost my job due to a medical condition that I could no longer perform my job. Had to move out of the motel and came to Florida to stay with a friend who said she would help me out. Employer told me to file for Unemployment in Georgia which I did in July. I have CERTIFIED each week since then showing I am actively seeking employment, filled out my work search record and submitted those. 6 weeks later I receive 2 letters in the mail from GDOL... 1 letter states I am "ELLIGIBLE" for UEI benefits based on a medical condition that I could no longer do my job and no other work was available to me from my employer. (My employer is NOT challenging anything, as a matter of fact they have been trying to help me) 2nd letter I open states I am NOT ELLIGIBLE for UEI benefits due to I am not seeking work? Both letters are dated SEPTEMBER 4th and both letters mailed on September 4th. I make a phone call to the INTRASTATE UNIT (sorry if its spelled wrong) and was told that evidently I checked a box on my initial application stating I was unavailable for work and they tried to call me on the 4th but since I didnt return their call I was denied benifits. The number I was given that they "supposedly" called was NOT my number nor was it a number I have any idea whos it is. I was informed I need to file an appeal letter and fax it... A process which can take up to 3 or 4 weeks according to the individual I spoke with.

I am FLAT broke, I am a type 1 Diabetic and have NOT been able to buy my insulin for the last 6 weeks... My friend can not keep supporting me and told me to file for foodstamps in Florida, which I did... I was contacted by the foodstamp office and they tell me GEORGIA DOL has reported to them that I AM receiving weekly UEI benifits from them....

I need to know is there anyone I can contact or what can I do to get this case moving forward since it has now officially been 8 weeks since I have received any type of income. I honestly can not wait another 3 or 4 weeks and to be honest I wont even have the money to pay my cell phone bill which is due in two weeks, so I doubt I will be able to do any type of phone appeal.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Always follow up a phone call with something in writing and say that any such box-ticking if accurately described was a mistake (obviously, since you reported in on X-Y-Z), pointing out the wrong phone number, etc. I'd send certified mail (noting on it that it was sent so), as well as a "cc" via "regular" mail AND fax it.

Obviously, you can show the local folks the letter saying your benefits have been suspended.

I'd look to local charitable organizations if I were you (if not former employer). This isn't the sort of thing that moves quickly even if there are no issues.

Why haven't you attempted to get another job? You should be out beating the pavement and looking online, while you have a roof over your head.

    Upsate: 09-21-12

I contacted GDOL on 09-21 to follow up making sure they received my "FAX" "CERTIFIED LETTER" and "LETTER" that was mailed to them in regards to the Appeal. After sitting on hold for 25 minutes someone finally answered the phone. I gave the person my name and SSN# basicially she says "so..what do you want?" I explain that I had faxed as well as mailed the appeal to them and was wondering what the progress was. I was informed that she Never received the fax and to go ahead and fax it again. I pollitely explained if I faxed it once and she never received it, how will faxing it again assure that she will receive it? I only have a few days left to appeal this, I am hoping the receipt from the certified letter will get here soon so I can scan the fax verification as well as the proof of delivery via US Mail.
