    Default Parking Ticket in College Parking Lot - 20 Minute Unload Zone

    My question involves a traffic citation from the state of: Colorado

    I was parking in a parking lot at CSU, and I parked in a spot that did not have a sign. I assumed it was a valid spot to park. However, in the morning, I woke up to find out I had received a ticket because the spot I had parked in was a 20 minute loading zone spot, and the parking spot next to it had a sign that said so, with an arrow pointing towards the spot I was in. I did not see this when I parked. The was was directly in front of the other parking spot, with the arrow at the bottom of the sign.

    I am not a CSU student, I am visiting my girlfriend from washington, so I am not very savvy with CSU or these parking lots, etc.

    What would be the best way to appeal this? You are given the chance to do one appeal, and the ticket was very expensive. I believe it is considered private property. I will try to provide a photograph of the sign today. Thank you.

    EDIT: CRS 23.5.107 states
    23-5-107. Authority of governing boards - parking

    (1) The governing board of any state institution of higher education is authorized to promulgate rules and regulations providing for the operation and parking of vehicles upon the grounds, driveways, or roadways within the property under the control of the governing board. Such rules and regulations may include, but not be limited to, regulation and control of the following:

    (a) Assignment of parking spaces, designation of areas for parking, and regulation of the use of such spaces and areas including the assessment of charges therefor;

    (b) Prohibition or limitation of parking in the manner deemed necessary;

    (c) Removal of vehicles parked in violation of institutional rules and regulations, ordinances, or law at the expense of the violator;

    (d) Assessment of charges for violation of rules and regulations.

    There is a bit more information on their regulations. I did have a valid parking permit, btw.

    The sign looked like this:

    Except it said 20 minute unloading zone, and the arrow underneath was only pointing to the left. The spot that I parked was its own separate parking spot, with designated lines, and no sign in front of it. I was also in the last spot available, and all other spots had a sign designating them as 20 minute load signs directly in front of them.

    If you park in a loading zone, and overstay the maximum period permitted, that's a valid ticket.

    How about posting a link to a picture of the actual spot? Your defense appears to be that the signs, as posted, are confusing, so it would help to see them.
