Possession of Marijuana in Michigan

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan

This is the first criminal offense I have had... possession of marijuana (about one gram). I am unfamiliar with the process, as this is my first time dealing with it, and I would like to know what to expect in the coming months.

Anyone been through the process and have any tips for me? Tomorrow I will be talking to a lawyer to see what steps I need to take. What a mess...

Since you're talking to a lawyer tomorrow, the best advice I can give you is to listen to him or her and take your attorney's advice seriously. While you ultimately decide what you will and will not do in your case, if your attorney is competent, and I assume he or she will be, they'll be able to better advise you than anyone on this forum for your fact specific case.

Your lawyer will be telling you about MCL 333.7411 (he may say "seventy-four-eleven; same thing), a statute that allows a first offense simple possession to be deferred and, assuming successful completion of deferral, will allow you to avoid a criminal conviction.
