    Default No Off Days

    My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: Indiana I currently work at a job that pays every week. We just have been given a new contract with a client and it requires the employees to work mandatory all seven days, twelve hour shifts. My question is do my employers have the right to do that

    Absent a CBA to the contrary, yes.

    Yes, they do. Under both Federal and IN law, you could be required to work 24/7/365 and as long as you were paid the appropriate overtime it would not violate any laws. There are states (only a very few, surprisingly) where there would be a different answer as to state law but in most, including IN, there is no limit to the number of hours you can be required to work.

    NOTE: The above does not apply in the matter of some industries where there is a public safely factor - long haul truckers, airline pilots, nurses in some states, railway workers. There are also laws in many states limiting the hours a minor can work.

    absolutely. Contrary to what many believe, there is no law that says they can't make you work 24/7 and there is no federal or state law requiring them to provide lunches or breaks.


    since IN just voted in right to work in an attempt to destroy the unions, I suspect we will be seeing a lot more of your type of situation before it gets better, if it ever does.

    I have always thought they should amend that to "right to work like a slave" states.

    Agree that in your state you can be required to work the hours your employer needs you to/tells you to (except for the exceptions noted by cbg above) or unless there is a binding employment contract or CBA to the contrary.
