My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Illinois
I recently rented a house in IL. I did all of the initial business with a property manager. I rented a 4 bedroom home with garage and pool for $950.00. I agreed to take the home not cleaned and agreed to do the cleaning and painting myself. I was told the owner had just purchased chemicals for the pool and that all I had to do is fill it and pay for the ongoing upkeep. The property manager told me the owner would be at the home on Aug 1 to remove her items from the outside shed and the basement. The property manger also told me the owner would make all repairs needed to the home. I was only responsible for the clean up of the home. I noticed upon moving in the garage door was not working, the pool walls were caving in, and the shed/basement was still full of the owners belongings. The property manager called me and said the owner was not going to fix the pool or the garage door. I asked to speak to the owner directly. After calling her she said the property manager has miscommunicated everything with me. That she had no intentions of fixing the pool, the garage door, or removing her items. She then fired the property manager. It has been a month and she is still not agreeing to make repairs to the garage door. I did sign a new lease with her stating she was responsible for all maintenance. But, she has not done anything to fix the pool the garage door or remove her items. She keeps apologizing for the misrepresentation of the property manager she hired, but I do not feel that is my fault. I rented the home contigent on 4 bedrooms, a garage, and an operating pool. At this point I've spent my entire savings cleaning up this home and trying to clean up the pool as it smelled horrible and was a disaster once I took off the cover, I do not know what to do at this point. My family and I have no where else to live and I have no more money to sink into this. I feel as though I have been scammed by this property manager who lied to me and also that I am renting from a slum lord. Any suggestions?
