My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: DC
My boyfriend was a tenant in a rent controlled apartment in DC for the last 14 years. I was added to the lease 2 years ago. Since then, we've broken up, and he now wants to remove his name from the lease. Can someone tell me what to expect when it comes to the rent? Will it skyrocket to amount that is charged for other units in the building? Or is there a cap? Or might it stay the same? I'm just not sure because I was added to the lease only 2 years ago.
