Default For Those Who Want to Emancipated, Read Here First

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Anywhere.

Ok, so you want to be emancipated.

First - you need to have a really good reason. Beyond "mom and dad act like parents", "they make me do chores".

Next: You need to be totally self sufficient. No, you don't live with friends or their parents. You pay rent on an apartment 100% on your own. You don't collect Food Stamps.

You are required to remain in school.....so think....can you pay all this while going to school and keeping good grades?

Rent: (do research in your area, but typically - figure atleast $600)
Utilities: Your apartment may or may not include Water, Trash, Pest Control, Heat. That may be an additional charge. Next - electricity. If your apartment does include heat - it's basically October - April only. You will need to add in a Space heater and the electric for that.
Phone: You'll need atleast a cheap cell phone plan.

Food: $50 a week is a good bet.

Staples: Toilet paper, kleenex, cleaning supplies, dish soap or dish washer detergent, Brillo pads, hand soap, body soap, razor, cosmetics (for the females). Toothpaste, floss, toothbruse. Any special things like facial wash, Clearasil. Menstrual supplies for the females.

Kitchen Goods: You do need to cook. So: Microwave; pots/pans. Dishes. Silverware. A baking sheet. Can opener.

Kitchen staples: Plastic wrap, aluminum foil, sandwich baggies. At the least. Some storage containers for leftovers are nice since you'll be working and going to school, so nice to come home to leftovers. (Believe me, that fast food or frozen food will get old after a while).

Next: You will need school supplies. Clothes and shoes for work and school.

Transportation - if you have a car, gas, oil, insurance, tire rotation and other maintenance. If you don't have a car - money for the bus system.

So...before you ask the question of being emancipated....write a list with everything I just mentioned....and see what the items cost.

And remember...depending on State Laws....you may not be allowed to work full time and go to school full time....

Actually, I would reverse the first two points. If you are not totally self-sufficient, no reason is good enough. If you can't pass the Self-Sufficient test, you'll never even get to Reason on the Judicial Scoreboard.

I would also mention that not all states will permit a minor to be emancipated at all.
